I have never considered myself an artist . . . more of a crafts person. I have done all kinds of crafts – tole painting, a little carving, ceramics, and now quilting. They seemed much more like crafts than art. But now that I am over 50, I have decided that I am an artist – I always like doing things that are original in some way. I am very much a part time artist because I have a full time job. My art fulfills a part of me that work doesn’t. It requires thought and problem solving but also allows me to do things just because I like it that way!
Right now, I am a quilter. I do mostly small pieces – table runners, afghans, baby blankets, and wall hangings. I love all kinds of fabrics but am drawn to the bright colors. I like to design my own patterns. The majority of my work is for gifts, or for myself. I also find I have a very practical side and want to build pieces from my scraps, so once in awhile, I have pieces for sale.
