I love to create! I especially love to create something new and innovative out of something old yet full of character. I often search out estate sales, garage sales, collector’s markets and flea markets to grab something unique and one-of-a-kind. I can definitely say my work is unique. You won’t find it other places.
I took a year of graphic design classes before I discovered it wasn’t for me, I am more of a fine arts girl. I know that my education in art history, in painting and how to construct a work of art has greatly contributed to my designer eye. My goal in whatever I make, is to create wearable art. To take what I love from nature, from other artists-like painters-and what I love about color balance and turn it into something a person can wear. I am hugely fond of textures and patterns, so I try to find ways to incorporate that into my accessories as well.
I’m constantly trying to find ways to improve because I love excellence—so I guess that makes me a perfectionist. Overall, I just love doing what I’m doing and hope to reflect that in my pieces and I hope to continue for lots longer!
Describe your art.: I use a lot of floral, nature inspired pendants. I love to work with both semi-precious as well as fire polished, czech glass. I love to make things sparkle! My goal in what I create is to bring elegance to the piece, even if it is whimsical.
Most of the time, when I’m creating I sit and look at what I have to work with and build from there. A lot of times I will want to center a piece around a pendant, or maybe a color scheme, or sometimes even an idea. An example of that would be flowers growing on a branch to capture the beauty of spring. I’ll go online, or go to the store and look for a metallic branch—something I can easily and creatively hang flowers from. I then sit and arrange the beads and the pendant until I find something that perfectly captures the mood, the idea of what I’m wanting to create. Then voila! Something beautiful happens and I have a beautiful piece to sell (or wear myself). I have been thrilled to see what’s come out so far and can’t wait to make more!
